When Design Meets Linen: Our First Collaboration with Aisha
Our first collaboration with Aisha from Hills & West Interior, four years ago, was a truly inspiring experience.
Aisha approached us at our showroom located at Sydney north shore to create pure linen curtains for her client Jena’s home in Waverley. For the initial consultation, we brought a curated selection of linen fabric hangers—including Kyoto, Allusion, and several other premium ranges—to review on-site.
Aisha was immediately drawn to the Kyoto (100% linen) collection from James Dunlop, particularly the elegant “Rice Paper” colour, whose soft, organic tone perfectly complemented the design vision.
We worked closely together to refine every detail—from the curtain coverage for the sliding doors to the ideal finished height, heading style, track system, and installation approach. With everything aligned, the design came together seamlessly.
Once confirmed, we moved ahead with fabric ordering and handcrafting. Four weeks later, installation day arrived—and the transformation was undeniable.
As the curtains were installed and settled effortlessly into place, both Aisha and Jena shared the same reaction: “Amazing!!!”
Why Linen?
Linen is a key element in many interior design schemes, valued for both its natural elegance and practical benefits. Made from the fibres of the flax plant, linen offers a unique combination of beauty, durability, and sustainability.
1. Premium Origins
The finest linen comes from flax fields in Flanders and Northern France, where rich soil and an Atlantic climate create ideal growing conditions.
2. Crafted by Experts
We partner with master weavers who use locally spun fibres to produce some of the world’s finest linen fabrics.
3. Sustainable Choice
European flax is one of the most sustainable raw materials, requiring only natural rainfall and minimal use of pesticides or fertilisers.
4. Naturally Textured Beauty
Linen’s subtle irregularities—known as slubs—are part of its charm, adding depth and character without compromising quality.
5. Naturally Antibacterial
With excellent moisture-wicking properties, linen can absorb up to 20% of its weight in moisture without feeling damp, helping maintain a fresh and hygienic environment.
6. Durable and Easy Care
Linen is up to three times stronger than cotton. It resists dirt, staining, lint, and pilling, making it a practical and long-lasting choice.
